Some Philippine tid bits here and there

I know am going crazy with the succubus things as it seems like it. :P

Anyway, I just bumped into a new series called Lost Girl. The series is about a woman who discovers she is a succubus and how the fae world is. She discovers friends from human to werewolves, to a siren, to a bartender and the Dark and the Light.

But this is not the time to talk about Lost Girl… Not yet.

One thing I love in Lost Girl is that whoever the genius is behind the plot is a oh yeah a genius! Though they have just messed up the whole thing that a succubus is a fairy, the introduction of different lore is so interesting and fun!

Yes, I’m a dork. You have banshee (Scottish), Baba Yaga (Slavic), sirens, silkie, Peri (Persian) and many more.

This week’s episode really impressed me though. They have introduced “Maganda”, which means “beautiful” in Filipino, who seems like a homeless lady. She is actually a batibat, “nightmare” in one of the provinces in the Philippines.

Only thing that I wasn’t so crazy about though is… they just presented her as part of Bali and the person who played as Maganda made her name sound a bit African.

2 Broke Girls

There’s a new TV Series in town. It’s not a major chick flick but it has spunk.

2 Broke Girls, now at its third episode, is a story of how two girls, Max and Caroline, working at a diner down in Brooklyn cope with everyday life. Max, the snarky brunette, comes in not with her quip lines but with an extra talent in making cupcakes. Caroline, on the other hand, was once rich and exiled by the rich society as her father operated a Bernard Madoff-esque Ponzi scheme. With her rich business background, Caroline comes in annoyingly picky, preppy and everything else but as she saw Max’s skill she formulates a business plan to put up a cupcake empire.

With a Russian cook, the jazzy cashier, and the Asian owner, it becomes a colorful scene.

Plus Chestnut, the champion horse. Definitely beats Gene, the cow, of Fringe.

Booboo on the first show

A lot of TV series is now on air again. We’re talking here Fringe, Big Bang Theory, Vampire Diaries, Game of Thrones and many more. Yeah, I’m your TV dope.

Thing is I couldn’t stop posting this though.

After watching the very first episode of Vampire Diaries Season 3, I just had to rub it in.

For those of you who haven’t watched the Vampire Diaries, here is a brief thing. Vampire is like the in thing for teens – just in case you haven’t heard of it. Eternal love, total emo, speed, blood, fangs. The works. Now the story of this one is quite unique in a sense that the author, L.J. Smith, made vampires walking under the sun with special accessories, a doppelganger story, and mythical animals with a special weakness on certain herbal items. Oh you must admit as well, the whole vampire changing skin  and blood shot eyes is just perfect for the suspense when a vampire is about to take a bite. I’m not going to deny but I do like the plot, except for the girl that everyone is crazy on – Elaina. Self sacrificing I’m the girl the two vampire brothers are in love with.

If you like a cut from the fabric of friendship, loyalty, and a light sense of conspiracy dating 500 years ago, this is your thing. It’s definitely a step down from the high society life of Gossip Girl. Yes, I was raised well by Princess Banter. Read more

Love Sookie in True Blood… Not!

Well I’m rewatching the episodes of True Blood by HBO.

And damn I realize how much more I hate Sookie.

Can someone put a finger on what it is?

An Engagement’s Epiphany

I have sincerely admired Tom and Lynette Scavo of the Desperate Housewives. It is most probably because Lynette is quite strong and she still tries to work at home and admit how her children drive her to crazy highway but still she loves them to bits. It is also how Tom and Lynette has gotten over the adversity in life – from her Cancer, her in laws, and Tom’s illegitimate child.

In Season 7, the team behind Desperate Housewives introduces a new girl in town. Think of it as a replacement of Eddie, Renee played by Vanessa Williams (who played as Wilhelmina Slater of Ugly Betty) who was Lynette’s frenemy back in college. Who apparently slept with Tom 20 years back!

So in Episode 12, Lynette learns about Tom’s one night with Renee and finally confronts it by doing indirect jabs – ripping pants, too much salt in his coffee, dismantling Lazy Boys. When Tom discovers that Lynette has discovered, they were testing each other on Lynette’s freshly baked brownies full of laxative which resulted to Lynette finally voicing out  what she felt on the whole incident.
