So it is… sorry it was a Friday and life as we know it becomes light and bright on a Friday. With every Friday, “Thank God it’s Friday”, casual to party attire at work and the anticipation of weekend just a blink away is in tune to almost everyone’s mind.
Seldom do I mention it, but it seemed my workload was light and frothy (maybe because I was ignoring annoying emails) that I decided I would rather enjoy my lunch alone and enjoy a good read. So I waited ‘til it was past the lunch hour traffic.
I walked out of our 15-degree office down to one of my favorite diners within the vicinity called Chef Mum. On my way, I caught some sunlight which I had to close my eyes a bit and savor its warm rays on my face.

I have a lot of pasta ranging from spaghetti, fetuccini, and some glorious cavitelli. So I needed to look for something to make out of them. Luckily, the last time I was at the hospital, I passed by the hospital’s happy shop which consists of toys, gifts, flowers, books for the permanent and temporary tenants. It was just a good move because I found the pasta cook book which I had to think two, three, four times and still haven’t gotten from Lucky Plaza. Hello $30-$40 dollars for a recipe book that is hard bound??? And knowing I tend to spill on my books and touch it with stinky hands??? So I found the cheaper version which was half of its price compared to its gorgeous hard bound version. (For those intrigued, I will post it sooner or later!)
With my tiny funds, my luxury item (as always) has been reduced to buying ingredients and not buying a pot for cooking pasta
. Embarrassingly but I guess I was lucky enough to borrow from Dyowsa who had a fever and was stuck at home. Now I know the feeling of Homer to Flanders. Of course, I have the sanity to feel embarrassed about it and know when to and when not to — yes, 9PM with no food and hungry makes a good reason!
Funny enough after cooking for less than an hour (hurrah!) and cleaning too, I was able to return the pot, put them in a decent container and share, and get to prepare my lunch packs. Sweet!

Of all the places I went to Europe for pilgrimage, Italy was the best. Not only for the scenery, the people — especially when they talk I love how their faces are so expressive, but the food. The pasta. Oh glorious pasta. If I could bring them all, I would. Unfortunately, with the thick winter clothes and 2 gallons of Holy Water from Lourdes, one can only try as much to pound in a 30-kilo limit on check in baggage.
My family went to Padua, Italy a couple of months ago. I wasn’t able to join them since I had to work. They were kind enough to
bring in a couple of bags of pasta and some glass beads I can wear though. My mother immediately handed me a bag of cavatelli when I came home a couple of months ago. You can imagine how my mind went all giddy on what new recipes I can do with this and how I treated it with extra care as this was a rare thing to acquire especially in Singapore! I tucked it in ever so neatly in the kitchen’s cabinet and have waited for the right time to finally cook it and the right recipe!
The good thing about this pack was that it was quite well preserved – all natural and lasts long. Unfortunately, it didn’t last eternity. I suddenly remembered it after talking with Stefano Virgili of Vox at Starbucks regarding a good opportunity then it struck me… I had a 2 month old pasta at home!
So there I was, after having an interesting talk, I browsed the internet and found an easy to do, fool proof recipe…
