The Holiday

Christmas is close, peeps. I just remembered the movie The Holiday with Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, and Jack Black <3.

I have found almost everything ever written about love to be true. Shakespeare said “Journeys end in lovers meeting.” Oh! What an extraordinary thought. Personally, I have not experienced anything remotely close to that, but I am more than willing to believe Shakespeare had. I suppose I think about love more than anyone really should. I am constantly amazed by its sheer power to alter and define our lives. It was Shakespeare who also said “love is blind”. Now that is something I know to be true. For some quite inexplicably, love fades; for others love is simply lost. But then of course love can also be found, even if just for the night. And then, there’s another kind of love: the cruelest kind. The one that almost kills its victims. Its called unrequited love. Of that I am an expert. Most love stories are about people who fall in love with each other. But what about the rest of us? What about our stories, those of us who fall in love alone? We are the victims of the one sided affair. We are the cursed of the loved ones. We are the unloved ones, the walking wounded. The handicapped without the advantage of a great parking space! Yes, you are looking at one such individual. And I have willingly loved that man for over three miserable years! The absolute worst years of my life! The worst Christmas’, the worst Birthday’s, New Years Eve’s brought in by tears and Valium. These years that I have been in love have been the darkest days of my life. All because I have been cursed by being in love with a man who does not and will not love me back. Oh god, just the sight of him! Heart pounding! Throat thickening! Absolutely can’t swallow! All the usual symptoms.

I know. Sappy. But I was able to catch Madam’s attention for 10 minutes with it. :P

Lau Pa Sat

Ok am going out of my routine here but for those of you who are thinking of visiting Singapore, one of the places you have to stop over (that is if you are a food lover) is to visit the Telok Ayer Market, now called Lau Pa Sat (“the old market”). Right at the belly button of the City Business District (CBD) of Singapore, it now offers several shops and food stalls.

With its unique, octagonal, cast iron structure, Lau Pa Sat is a place of gathering for people who wishes to have a good fast meal, live bands or to have a good beer when watching your favorite football game.

Lau Pa Sat from the front. Thanks to Ed Marcelo for the photo :P

What’s on the menu?

A lot. Foot traffic in Lau Pa Sat is so many that it offers from your local Chinese, Malay, Indian to Hungarian and Puerto Rican Chicken. We’re talking buffet here.

Michelle Gayle in Fly Away

I’ve had this knack of staying in the music store and check out random singers. If I had a buck, I like to cover, I like the titles, I’ll take it. As long as not known, am good. So I did. I found this album by Michelle Gayle. I always loved the beat especially on this song. It’s not until now did I bother to internalize the lyrics. Love it.

Fly Away
Michelle Gayle

I never really cared about a broken heart,
A sad heart
Cause it always made me feel
Like love wasn’t meant for me
Got a little tired of the lovers
That were good to me
They’d turn around and they’d use me then lie to me

So I’m glad I finally found someone
Who’s gonna set me free
Take me to another place,
A place where I deserve to be
So I’m glad I finally found someone
Who’s gonna set me free
Take me to another place
Take me to another place

The Succubus Georgina Kincaid Series

I like picking things at random. That’s what makes a trip to a bookstore so interesting – just unobligated browsing, serendipity. So checking out an online store plus Amazon’s awesome user experience in suggesting other similar books while I hunted down Eve Silver’s last book, I bumped into Richelle Mead’s Georgina Kincaid Series.

Interesting. Something non-vampire, not so cliché, new and urban fantasy.

Succubus… we’ve seen them in different frames and cultures – from the Jew literature to the Hindu. They are women who take away the life force through dreams and sex.

Georgina Kincaid is one and unlike in how literature has depicted, she is real and she does take the life force away by luring in men and shape shifting and answering to Hell’s payroll system. As once human, she is haunted by her emotions of guilt, longing and sadness. Call her the melodramatic succubus. With friends such as two colorful vampires, an arch daemon, an imp, and an angel and the balancing act of living like a mortal, life couldn’t be more exciting.

All seems ordinary to Georgina not until she met Seth Mortensen, an author who visits the bookstore where she works at for a book signing. Things become interesting for Georgina as she falls and smashes on the reality that she can kill him.

What’s your number?

Is it possible all my exes got better in time?

When I was in Kuala Lumpur (KL)  with my flatmate for a work/holiday thing, we took a break and went to the movies at KLCC. Unfortunately, I was too nice and I let her pick the movie to watch.

We ended up picking What’s your number? Starring Anna Farris of House Bunny and Chris Evans who is damn too yummy and will be in Avengers after his Captain America project.

Well if it weren’t the over laughing movie goer a couple of rows back from us, I’d say you would’ve heard me grabbing a wooden chopping board and hitting it either on my overly protruding forehead or at my flatmate’s face.

What’s your number? is the focus of Anna Darling’s life as she gets hit by this sad reality by a well researched article that women who have had more than 20 sexual partners end up not getting married. Taking into note that most women would love to walk down the isle in their own wedding gown, her suddenly reaching to the 20th guy of her sexy time after her sister’s bachelorette party, she starts hunting down her exes in hopes that she falls within the expectation that she doesn’t go over 20 and she finds true love similar to her sister who got back together with an ex.
