So just like the Druids of the Claw in Warcraft, I’m saying this now. I am frigging awake. Literally.

My body clock is severely ruined. I would stay up to 4AM to 5AM and wake up at 8AM. There was even a time it was 6 or 7. Not the way on how to live. I have been spacing out, getting extra cranky, having eye irritation, and if I do go on, my stomach would be next.

My body is saying it. Time to listen. Friends are even kind enough to say it. I had a lot of different hints from phone to chat and even on email at 7AM from a friend’s dad…. A friend’s dad! Ugh.

“Just remember all that money isn’t worth it if your health is at risk.”

“You’re going to burn up bad. ”

“If you get down and sick, [Boss] will not bring you to the hospital.”

“You cannot do this. You have to have a shift.”

And the best line goes to:

“Babe, have a beer.” In an attempt to catch me off guard. I think.

So yeah. I’m still alive and I’m awake. Time to regain the wheel on my car.

Sincerely,
Sleepless in Singapore

Anyway, I just bumped into a new series called Lost Girl. The series is about a woman who discovers she is a succubus and how the fae world is. She discovers friends from human to werewolves, to a siren, to a bartender and the Dark and the Light.

But this is not the time to talk about Lost Girl… Not yet.

One thing I love in Lost Girl is that whoever the genius is behind the plot is a oh yeah a genius! Though they have just messed up the whole thing that a succubus is a fairy, the introduction of different lore is so interesting and fun!

Yes, I’m a dork. You have banshee (Scottish), Baba Yaga (Slavic), sirens, silkie, Peri (Persian) and many more.

This week’s episode really impressed me though. They have introduced “Maganda”, which means “beautiful” in Filipino, who seems like a homeless lady. She is actually a batibat, “nightmare” in one of the provinces in the Philippines.

Only thing that I wasn’t so crazy about though is… they just presented her as part of Bali and the person who played as Maganda made her name sound a bit African.

Christmas is close, peeps. I just remembered the movie The Holiday with Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, and Jack Black <3.

I have found almost everything ever written about love to be true. Shakespeare said “Journeys end in lovers meeting.” Oh! What an extraordinary thought. Personally, I have not experienced anything remotely close to that, but I am more than willing to believe Shakespeare had. I suppose I think about love more than anyone really should. I am constantly amazed by its sheer power to alter and define our lives. It was Shakespeare who also said “love is blind”. Now that is something I know to be true. For some quite inexplicably, love fades; for others love is simply lost. But then of course love can also be found, even if just for the night. And then, there’s another kind of love: the cruelest kind. The one that almost kills its victims. Its called unrequited love. Of that I am an expert. Most love stories are about people who fall in love with each other. But what about the rest of us? What about our stories, those of us who fall in love alone? We are the victims of the one sided affair. We are the cursed of the loved ones. We are the unloved ones, the walking wounded. The handicapped without the advantage of a great parking space! Yes, you are looking at one such individual. And I have willingly loved that man for over three miserable years! The absolute worst years of my life! The worst Christmas’, the worst Birthday’s, New Years Eve’s brought in by tears and Valium. These years that I have been in love have been the darkest days of my life. All because I have been cursed by being in love with a man who does not and will not love me back. Oh god, just the sight of him! Heart pounding! Throat thickening! Absolutely can’t swallow! All the usual symptoms.

I know. Sappy. But I was able to catch Madam’s attention for 10 minutes with it.

Ok am going out of my routine here but for those of you who are thinking of visiting Singapore, one of the places you have to stop over (that is if you are a food lover) is to visit the Telok Ayer Market, now called Lau Pa Sat (“the old market”). Right at the belly button of the City Business District (CBD) of Singapore, it now offers several shops and food stalls.

With its unique, octagonal, cast iron structure, Lau Pa Sat is a place of gathering for people who wishes to have a good fast meal, live bands or to have a good beer when watching your favorite football game.

Lau Pa Sat from the front. Thanks to Ed Marcelo for the photo

What’s on the menu?

A lot. Foot traffic in Lau Pa Sat is so many that it offers from your local Chinese, Malay, Indian to Hungarian and Puerto Rican Chicken. We’re talking buffet here.

What I love the most?
At the side of Lau Pa Sat, you can find the Indonesian barbecue, Satay, stalls all lined up where they block off the road at night to serve patrons. It’s not as cowboy as the one in the Philippines but sitting down on one of the seats is like putting on a target board on your forehead as stall representatives come in bringing in their laminated menu. Servings range from mutton, beef, chicken, honey chicken wings, shrimp and squid. Nom nom nom anyone?

Satay 7 & 8 Special thanks to Pat and Louie's suggestion

Shrimps and Honey Chicken Wings

There is also this drink here in Singapore called the Teh Tarik or “Pull Tea” which you can find some of the stalls actually performing the traditional way of making it.

Teh Tarik making. Special thanks to Guido Jacinto for the photo.

Other things you might want to see?
Well the thing is, it’s not common for me to see a Prata, the Indian pancake variation. It’s quite entertaining how they prepare it. Will get a picture one of these days.

Hope you enjoy! I know I did. Picture by Ed Ed edited with Camera+

I’ve had this knack of staying in the music store and check out random singers. If I had a buck, I like to cover, I like the titles, I’ll take it. As long as not known, am good. So I did. I found this album by Michelle Gayle. I always loved the beat especially on this song. It’s not until now did I bother to internalize the lyrics. Love it.

Fly Away
Michelle Gayle

I never really cared about a broken heart,
A sad heart
Cause it always made me feel
Like love wasn’t meant for me
Got a little tired of the lovers
That were good to me
They’d turn around and they’d use me then lie to me

So I’m glad I finally found someone
Who’s gonna set me free
Take me to another place,
A place where I deserve to be
So I’m glad I finally found someone
Who’s gonna set me free
Take me to another place
Take me to another place

Baby come fly away
Let me take you to another place
A place that you’ve never been before
Baby come fly away
Let me take you to another place
Come let’s fly away

So take me higher babe
Higher and higher babe
You know exactly where I wanna be babe
That’s in your arms now
Way up high in the clouds
No other lover can compare to you

So glad I found someone
Who won’t lie to me
You came around and you showed me
What loving means
Take me to another place
Take me to another place
Oh baby let’s fly away

Baby come fly away
Let me take you to another place
A place that you’ve never been before
Baby come fly away
Let me take you to another place
Come let’s fly away
Let’s fly away
Let’s fly away
No other place (2x)
Come let’s fly away

Baby come fly away
Let me take you to another place
A place that you’ve never been before

Baby come fly away
Let me take you to another place
Come let’s fly away
