Super 8 Movie

Mint.

Whenever I think of the title Super 8, all I could say is it’s time to go gotohan. Gotohan is a place in the Philippines that sells special congee. Usually with beef tripe but can come with some balls if you know what I mean. *wink wink*

So I digress.

The moment I saw that Super 8 is by JJ Abrams, the renowned Bad Robot, I told myself I’m so watching this. I didn’t care what it was about all I know is that they produced the TV series I have watched – Fringe, Lost, Alias. It was a sealed deal for me.

When I finally dragged my flatmate to watch the movie, it just got more interesting! Steven Spielberg was also in the whole production!

Oh how my heart thumped with delight! Please pardon my silliness but I rarely take note of the name of producers. When Pat yammered about who made X-Men, believe me I was clueless and I could here people saying blasphemy to me right now.

So Super 8 is a story of a group of kids who minded only their happy world of hanging out in school and creating a zombie movie in 1979. One night, they sneaked out of their house and found a spot to record a part of their movie where they witness a train accident. Series of weird events such as dogs migrating to different towns, people missing, and microwave ovens stolen the children started to investigate and discovers a secret that their Biology teacher was trying to solve.

To be honest, I was glad that the cameras didn’t move so much like Cloverfield. You could have imagined my headache would be.

Starring Kyle Chandler of Early Edition as Jackson Lamb, I thought this might be a struggle as history dictates TV series actors are meant for TV series with a reason. Sorry if it sounds darn nasty but it is.

But it came out quite well. Playing as a concerned father and law enforcer, he really did play it well. Hurrah!

Super 8 will remind you of the good old times for the ones who grew up with ET or the innocent days of you trying to be “mint”. My recommendation: if you want to watch something not part of the cliché in movies, the part of good old times and growing up… This is it.

I didn’t enjoy it that much but I guess it was due to high expectations.
